Our Muslim brothers surprise visitors at City Mall Nyali Mombasa

For decades Muslims in Mombasa have lived in harmony with Christians with both religions  respecting each other and even sharing with each other during the festive season. During Ramadhan,Easter,Christmas and Idd celebrations you would find everyone eating together and sharing with their neighbors what they had prepared.

image

Today, many arrived at City Mall to run their errands and were surprised to find our Muslim community of Mombasa brothers welcoming them with roses, flowers and water as the Christians celebrated Christmas day.

image

This struck me as such an amazing gesture that these young men set as an example that we are one and all Kenyans. We need more people like these young men and today we celebrate them.
The team is planning to go further to the streets to extend their love and kindness.

Ahmed

If you see them, thank them on our behalf.
Let us look out for one another and live together in harmony. Merry Christmas!

How it all went down at the #Celebrateactorslegacy event.

It all went down yesterday,Wednesday 23rd December 2015 at the Little Theatre  Club where hundreds showed up to show support for this first ever event to take place in Kenya where departed actors all over the country were celebrated in an event dubbed #celebrateactorslegacy.

image

The late Pascal

These  celebrated actors helped shape up the film industry and contributed positively in improving the lives of many in the entertainment industry especially with the likes of the late Mzee Ojwang, Bokello, Jastorina, our very own Pascal and many more.

image

The turn out was highly impressive as the house was full and some had to stand just to be part of this memorable event.

image

Susumila and Dazlah performing with the band

The host,Esther Ingolo fantastically managed to get the audience involved and entertained with her numerous jokes. Credits also go to Stephanie Maseki and her team who engineered and mobilized the whole event.

Good Turnout

Our leaders were not left behind, dressed in white, the theme colour for the event,Hon. Senator Hassan Sarai and Mohammed Abbas the minister for youth and sports among other leaders clearly showed their support.
Hon Abbas stated that it was important for coastal people to support their very own and to take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves.

image

Hon. Mohammed Abbas

Hon Sarai echoed his sentiments but added that as coast artists we  need to be unique and celebrate our own culture. He emphasized on the need to unite and support each other in the entertainment industry.

image

Hon Abbas

image

The Senator Hon. Sarai

The main point that stood out from all those who gave their speeches was that we all need to celebrate each other while we are still alive and the way to do that is to support each other when it comes to events, in shows and awards, in purchasing our merchandise and in buying local music and promoting local talent.

image

Dancers

The event was filled with lots of entertainment, with music from Susumila and Dazlah who got everyone to break a leg.Juukua the band also used their vocals to raise the hair on our backs, spoken word was gracefully done by Ohms law Montana and another young talented lady,Diana who talked about Female Genital Mutilation, comedy was in plenty, there were dances from B12 and other groups, plus a great performance from Moto Moto acrobats and generally it was a night full of talent.

Pwani Celebrates Actors Legacy

It’s been an eventful year with both happy and sad moments.
As Pwani we have made strides,we have experienced different emotions and have celebrated our lives with the numerous events held this year.
Unfortunately,we have also lost some of the most amazing people in our lives, family, friends, relatives and loved ones.

image

The Pwani film fraternity have decided not to let the year end without celebrating the lives of actors that made a huge contribution to the film industry by holding a ‘Celebrating Actor’s Legacy’ event scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday 23rd December 2015 from 6 p.m.
Guests are asked to come dressed in white or purple with candles to mark this important event.

image

The late Ahmed Dharuwesh

The fallen actors including veterans like Mzee Ojwang helped shape the film industry and always cracked us up with his performance alongside his ‘wife’ Mama Kayai. The most recent loss being the demise of the late Ahmed Dharuwesh of KTN.

image

It was also very sad when the Coast Film fraternity woke up to the shocking news this year of the sudden departure of the late Pascal who was a jovial, hilarious actor with a big heart. It was hard for friends and family to come to terms with his loss and many came out in large numbers to show solidarity at the funeral service held at Pandya Hospital and later at his home where he was laid to rest.

image

The late Pascal

Our hearts are filled with sorrow thinking of their departure but we chose to celebrate their lives instead and appreciate the love they spread, the art of performing and their many ways of touching our hearts.
Those attending are currently sharing this message #celebrateactorslegacy.
