HELP A CHILD TOUCH A HEART INITIATIVE
This initiative first caught many people’s attention when they were touched enough by the plea of a desperate mother for her child who had breathing problems and urgently required a breathing apparatus to survive. They set aside their agenda for that month and raised funds to provide the vital tool for Baby Lauzi who was admitted at the Malindi District Hospital. Sadly she passed on days later after she was discharged from hospital however the joyful, ever smiling child had a chance to survive with the breathing apparatus provided by #touchaheartarmy and managed to spend a few more days with her family which were precious and treasured moments to he mother Mama Lauzi.
Help a child touch a heart initiative is an initiative that believes that children are the future of the nation. Founded in January this year by Allan Kombe, the initiative has now incorporated up to 1300 youth all over the world through social media and more than 100 who are able to meet locally, to offer their time, money, services and other resources to help needy children within the 6 Coastal counties of Kenya to start with but they do hope in future to reach children nationwide and furthermore offer humanitarian and voluteer services, mentorship programmes, development projects, transition and exchange programs.
The initiative targets orphans who are underpriviledged, people living with disabilities and children in unsponsored children homes. In addition the team offers services in psycho-social,educational and spiritual support with the aim of ensuring that these children grow up to be young responsible adults for the betterment of the future of this nation.
The team visits children homes every month and has so far visited up to eight homes all over the coastal region. Their final place of visit for the year will be on Sunday 6th December 2015 at Hennys Children’s Home in Kwale County.
The other places they have visited include:
Joyous Childrens Home (Malindi-Kilifi county),Swabur Orphanage Home (Mwandoni,Bamburi in Mombasa),Rainbow Childrens Home (Gede,Watamu in Kilifi county), Azhar Orphanage Home (Maluwani,Kaloleni), Furaha Orphanage Home (Kilifi), Salha Centre (Kwale) ,Shanzu Good Hope Children’s Centre (Mombasa) and Voi Tumaini Children’s Home in Voi.
The team relies entirely on their own contributions and those of well wishers and lack of funds has proven to be one major challenge for them though they are determined to keep pushing forward. One of their members Precious Kombe in an interview said that they are driven by the need to help these children. They are filled with joy when they put a smile on their faces and they find fulfillment that they made a difference even in their own little way to ensure those children have something to eat, to wear and to rest their heads.
Sheldon Randu added that they also learn to appreciate the blessings in their lives and do not take for granted that they have basic needs therefore it is important as individuals to share what they have with others which is in accordance to their slogan ‘Give the world the best you have and the best will come to you.’
The initiative has had recognition in the Coastal region and has been nominated for several awards and recently bagged the award for Best Project in Mombasa County 2015. The initiative partners with different institutions and individuals including Baraka FM, County government including Mombasa,Kilifi,Kwale and Taita Taveta, together with artists like Nyota Ndogo and various groups like Tezo Zegede Group, Bango Addict Group and Life Support Group among others. Their Mombasa Ambassador Esther Ingolo also plays a major role in supporting the objectives of this group.
